Welcome to St. Joseph’s College Library

Overview

The library is an oasis of calm and quiet in the school located on the first floor and accessed centrally via the main staircase and school lift.  It is housed in a large spacious area with seating for collaborative, class and individual study, an IT area, an issue desk and display zone. In addition to books, magazines and newspapers it is supplied with wireless technology as well as ample sockets and data cabling, iPads, e-readers and a mobile app (iMLS) to access the library catalogue.

The ethos is to provide both print and electronic resources together with a welcoming and calm environment to support literacy development, reading for pleasure, homework and independent study in St. Joseph's.  This ensures it is a flexible and future-proof space.

Staff

The library is managed by a professional Librarian: Mrs M. Devlin, BA (Hons.) MCLIP, who has over 20 years’ experience managing school libraries’; and who provides a wide range of resources, information, activities, tutorials and support for students in all year groups and staff.

Our Main Aims

Our main objectives in the library are to support the school community through the provision of book and digital information, delivery of and assistance in literacy support; and independent learning across the curriculum.  The library contributes in many ways to the school's aim of creating confident individuals, responsible citizens and successful learners.
