Special Olympics Ulster athletes included in Ireland team for World Winter Games 2017

19th Dec 2016

THREE athletes from the north, including two teenagers, have been selected to compete for Team Ireland in next year's Special Olympics World Winter Games.

St Joseph's College, Coalisland pupil Caolán McConville (12), 16-year-old Sean McCartan and Cyril Walker, aged 46, will all represent Ireland in skiing.

McConville, from Aghagallon, Co Antrim, only took up skiing two years ago but has already won several medals including two golds at the Special Olympics Ireland Winter Games earlier this year.

The three are among 26 Team Ireland athletes who will compete in next year's games.

The games will take place in Graz and Schladming, Austria, in March.
